Five such communities were selected to represent the range of Native Alaskan communities bordering the Bering Sea: Savoonga on St. Lawrence Island, St. Paul on the western edge of the continental shelf, Emmonak and Togiak of the Yukon-Kuskokwim delta shoreline, and Akutan in the eastern Aleutian Islands.
