Summary: | The motivation of this study was to gather direct measurements of lake ice thickness to support geophysical and remote sensing observations of lake ice properties. Ice thickness measured directly using auger holes and tape measure, and snow depth measured using probe. For each measurement location, a 5 centimeter (cm) ice auger drill was used to install a hole though the lake ice, and a weighted tape measure was used to measure ice thickness to the nearest cm. Measurements were conducted during the spring of 2019 and winter of 2020 on the North Slope of Alaska (AK) and in the Fairbanks, AK region. |
