Autonomous phase-sensitive Radio-Echo Sounder (ApRES)-derived basal and surface melt rates for Petermann Gletscher Ice Shelf, Greenland, 2015 - 2017.

Melt rates along the ice base and surface in the central basal channel of Petermann Gletscher Ice Shelf, Greenland. Rates were derived from hourly soundings taken by an Autonomous phase-sensitive Radio-Echo Sounder (ApRES) located on the ice surface approximately 16 kilometers (km) seaward of the gr...

Rates were derived from hourly soundings taken by an Autonomous phase-sensitive Radio-Echo Sounder (ApRES) located on the ice surface approximately 16 kilometers (km) seaward of the grounding line in the ice shelf's central basal channel. The long data set spans August 23, 2015 to May 01, 2017, reveals a large seasonal signal in both the surface and basal melt rate, and has been smoothed with a 2-day running median filter. The short data set spans August 23, 2015 to February 11, 2016, reveals fortnightly and tidal basal melt rate signals, and has not been filtered. These data were throughly analyzed in Washam et al. (2019) - Journal of Glaciology and Washam et al. (2020) - JGR: Oceans. Complimentary oceanographic vertical profiles (doi:10.18739/A2PC2T86B) and time series data (doi:10.18739/A22J6846K) were collected beneath the ice at this location. A sediment core was also collected at this location.
