Summary: | On the basis of permafrost characteristics and summer degradation in the Bayan‐Nuurin‐Khotnor Basin in Mongolia the processes of pingo degradation are presented and discussed. Differentiation between these processes is interpreted to be associated mainly with the thermal influence of waters, e.g. with thermokarst phenomena and thermal erosion of artesian and river waters. The direct heating influence of solar radiation as well as littoral abrasion in pingo lakes seem to have subordinate significance. |
