Summary:ABSTRACT The result obtained hitherto on the Fennoscandian land uplift gravity line indicates that the postglacial uplift process might be more complicated than a pure horizontal flow of mantle (‘Bouguer model’). Simple formulae, valid for a more arbitrary model, are developed for the change of the geoid and for the remaining land uplift. Numerical applications yield a geoid change of about 0.4 mm yr ‐1 and a remaining land uplift of the order of 50 m, but the latter quantity is very difficult to determine with reasonable accuracy.
