The effects were observed to a much lesser extent in samples retained for 12 wk at – 35°C. It was apparent that cryogenic, plate or blast freezing techniques showed no measurable influence on the observed membrane condensation and that such ultrastructural changes resulted as a consequence of relatively high (–12°C) subfreezing temperatures.
