SUMMARY. The oxygen consumption of the two British species of the polychæte worm Pectinaria has been measured for comparison with published data for an arctic species of this genus. It is shown that comparing the arctic species P. granulata and the British P. auricoma there is no metabolic adaptation to latitude, but when the former species is compared with the British P. koreni such an adaptation exists.
