A note on the spaciousness of the cavity around the brain of the basking shark, Cetorhinus maximus (Gunner)

A description, including measurements, is given of the brain and cranial cavity of the basking shark, Cetorhinus maximus . The significance ofthe small brain and its enclosure by a relatively large cranial cavity in a thick cartilagenous skull is discussed.
