Lowland periglacial research: a review of published advances 2003–2007

Abstract Research on lowland periglacial landforms and processes is reviewed using papers published from 2003–2007, to identify current interests, trends and directions of advances in knowledge, and to help identify promising avenues for future research. For this period, the total number of identifi...

For this period, the total number of identified published research papers was 72. Topics relating to ice wedges, thermokarst, palsas and patterned ground were characterised by high publication activity. Current trends suggest three main research thrusts in the near‐future: palaeoenvironmental reconstructions (including Mars) using current process and landform observations as analogues, year‐round monitoring of processes using automatic equipment and modelling based on Geographical Information Systems.
