Distribution of plasminogen allotypes in eight populations of the Western Hemisphere

Abstract Phenotyping for plasminogen (PLG) variants on 0.5 mm agarose isoelectric focusing gels enabled us to identify six different allotypes among the eight populations studied. PLG *1 and PLG *2 were seen at polymorphic frequencies in all the populations studied except Eskimos which had a gene fr...

Description
Summary:Abstract Phenotyping for plasminogen (PLG) variants on 0.5 mm agarose isoelectric focusing gels enabled us to identify six different allotypes among the eight populations studied. PLG *1 and PLG *2 were seen at polymorphic frequencies in all the populations studied except Eskimos which had a gene frequency of 0.993 for PLG *1. The variants PLG *3, PLG *B, were seen at low frequencies in some of the populations, whereas PLG *M was only identified in the local White population. A new variant named PLG *D, which we consider to be a marker of black populations, was identified in local Blacks and Black Caribs at frequencies of 0.037 and 0.058, respectively.
