Summary:Abstract Surface modality of coalbed methane hydrate and fractal‐like kinetic characteristics of the hydrate dissociation at normal pressure have been studied by using fractal geometry theory. The results show that the surface modality of coalbed methane hydrate has fractal characteristic, and the dissociation kinetics of coalbed methane hydrate is fractal‐like. Moreover, a new kinetic model for coalbed methane hydrate dissociation was proposed, and its reliability was validated.
