Summary: | Fer.vi.di.coc.ca.ce'ae, N.L. masc. n. Fervidicoccus the type genus of the family; ‐ aceae ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Fervidicoccaceae the family of the genus Fervidicoccus . Crenarchaeota / Thermoprotei / Fervidicoccales / Fervidicoccaceae Members of the family Fervidicoccaceae are extremely thermophilic microorganisms of the order Fervidicoccales in the class Thermoprotei . At present, the only cultivated representative of Fervidicoccaceae family is Fervidicoccus fontis, isolated from hot spring of Uzon Caldera, Kamchatka. It is an anaerobic organotroph growing optimally on peptides at 65–70°C and pH 6.0. Complete genome analysis of F. fontis confirmed a distinct phylogenetic position of this group. |
