Description
Summary:In the year 1887 an extremely odd village sprang up on the banks of the Yukon river, not many miles from the present site of Dawson City. It was called Fortymile, and, had it been on another planet, it could scarcely have been more remote from civilization. It was almost five thousand miles by boat from the nearest city (Victoria, B.C.), and for nine months of the year was sealed off from the world, its citizens prisoners of their own choosing in a dark and unknown land.
