The purpose of this series of separate map sheets is to make available a limited amount of new material in periods between the publication of atlas volumes, and also to permit flexibility in the presentation of atlas material. In this paper, the authors outline the cartographic problems relating to the planning and design of the atlas sheet Lakes, Rivers and Glaciers, and describe the techniques of its production. The map, at the scale of 1:7,500,000, was derived with minimal generalization from the 1:1,000,000 series of the National Topographic System. Within the plan of the National Atlas of Canada, the map is part of a section devoted to the representation of terrain.
