Summary: | In 1988, as a teacher at Ataguttaaluk School, on Baffin Island, Northwest Territories, I decided to start an after-school drama club. When the teacher who led the dance club left the community, it made sense to combine the two extra-curricular clubs since the same enthusiasts were in both! The result was the Dance and Drama Club. Today, the Igloolik Dance and Drama Theatre Group consists of northern youth ages thirteen to twenty, all of whom are students of Ataguttaaluk School. But we are not exclusively a student organization: adults and elders of the community are also members of the company, and at any one time there might be over thirty people from Igloolik involved in a production. |
