Summary: | Abstract The distribution of persons who not only hyperstartle but who also match and obey is quite curious. Although occasionally such a person may turn up almost anywhere, there are places in the world besides Malaysia and Indonesia where they are quite frequently encountered. People who exhibit the startle-matching syndrome appear to be numerous in Southeast Asia, but significant numbers of them can be found in an assortment of rather diverse cultural contexts as well-including Siberia, Lapland, Yemen, Japan (among the Ainu), and in North America along the eastern portion of the border between Canada and the United States. |
