Summary:This article aims to analyze the working conditions of hired fishermen at Plaisance, Newfoundland, during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The archival sources come from the notarial documents of La Rochelle and Plaisance. Generally speaking, we can conclude that there were minor differences in the working conditions of workers in the dry fishery versus those of the wet fishery.
