Summary: | Abstract A harmonic analysis is carried out for a simplified finite element model of the Earth with characteristic important elements of transportation infrastructure in the equatorial and polar regions. The results are presented for the calculation of the Earth model with the sections of the main pipelines attached in the specified areas, as well as the results of a similar calculation for the assembled rails and sleepers with the embankment and basements with different properties under harmonic displacements of the basements. The calculations show significantly greater load on the considered elements of the transportation infrastructure in the polar region as compared to the equatorial one because the displacements of the Earth’s surface in the polar zones of the model are much greater in magnitude than in the equatorial ones. Consequently, it is necessary to consider these phenomena in the calculations and experimental measurements of seismic impacts when designing transportation infrastructure in the Arctic region. |
