The British, the last in a series of European colonizers, were anticipated by both the Basque and the French, but the intensity of colonization and the occupation of indigenous land accelerated with the British presence. Each of the essays in this volume are placed within this broader framework and the chapter concludes that collectively the chapters contribute to the historiography of the Atlantic and British Worlds as well as the historiography of settler colonialism.
