The mayfly fauna of Northern Canada is composed of a distinctive tundra element (five species, three of which are holarctic), a north boreal element containing a few characteristic but not exclusive species, together with the most tolerant species of the eastern and, to a limited extent, western temperate faunas. Eighty-two species are now reported from Canada north of the closed boreal forest, roughly one fourth of the known Canadian fauna of mayflies.
