A new species of Psammonyx (Crustacea, Amphipoda, Lysianassidae) from the Northwestern Atlantic

Psammonyx terranovae n.sp., distinguished from P. nobilis in the lack of ventral setae on the anterior coxal plates, is described and figured in detail. A diagnosis of the genus Psammonyx is presented. Psammonyx terranovae has been found in the intertidal in eastern Newfoundland and in the subtidal, south to the Nova Scotia banks. Its distribution is discussed in relation to its temperature tolerances and its possible past history.
