Some aspects of the biology of Amphiporeia lawrenciana Shoemaker (Crustacea, Amphipoda) in Newfoundland waters

In Newfoundland waters 50% of female Amphiporeia lawrenciana mature at 7.5 mm. Between May and August a series of broods may he produced, but from August to October females enter the resting stage so that young are released from the brood pouch between May and November. Females reach a larger size than males and fecundity is moderate (F = 1.97L + 14.367 in winter, F = 1.33L + 11.855 in summer). Amphiporeia lawrenciana was least abundant in January and increased to a maximum in October.
