Morphology and relationships of Periplectus labiosus n. gen., n. sp. (Nematoda:Plectinae) with remarks on its evolutionary significance

Periplectus labiosus n. gen., n. sp., a soil-inhabiting nematode from the Lake Hazen area of the Canadian Arctic, is described and illustrated. The description includes morphological details to the extent that was possible through the study of a limited number of preserved and processed specimens. The relationships of the genus are discussed with the genera Plectus Bastian, 1865, Anaplectus De Coninck and Schuurmans Stekhoven, 1933, and Pakira Yeates, 1967, with remarks on the possible evolutionary significance of the new genus.
