Summary: | A portable beta detector and counter were used under arctic field conditions to monitor 14 C export in three tundra grasses. All species possessed a pattern of translocation at the low arctic temperatures similar to that of other temperate grasses under more moderate temperate zone conditions. Loss of label from loaded areas was rapid for the first 4 to 6 h and then decreased. Twenty to 35% of the original material remained after 24 h. There were no major differences in export among the three species, and patterns were similar throughout the season regardless of changing environmental conditions. |
