Summary:Leaves, stems, roots, and berries of a number of native plants which were collected in the Ungava Bay region of northern Quebec were analyzed for ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and β-carotene (vitamin A) in a laboratory set up near Fort Chimo.The results indicated that some plants from the Eastern Arctic were remarkably vitamin-rich. These findings demonstrated that wild plants represent a valuable natural resource which might be utilized under survival conditions or as required to ensure proper nutrition in the far North.
