Description
Summary:Describes a calcium hexahydrate found in Ika Fjord, south of Ivigtut Peninsula. Samples collected from the bottom of a skerry in Aug. 1962 were examined; optical data and chemical determinations are given. The new mineral, to be called ikaite, is apparently formed through the action of bicarbonate-carrying springs at the bottom of the fjord. It may occur widely in cold waters.
