In Modern Norwegian the first name is spelled either or ; patronym variously as , , , or .}} ( – ) is commonly recognized as the first permanent Norse settler of Iceland, together with his wife Hallveig Fróðadóttir and foster brother Hjörleifr Hróðmarsson.
